Tetris is somehow getting its own live-action movie

Just when you though Hollywood had rebooted every last thing that you held dear during your childhood, a Tetris movie has been announced.

Threshold Entertainment has teamed up with the Tetris Company to adapt the Soviet tile-matching Game Boy game into a movie, according to The Wall Street Journal no less.

What's more, this won't be an animation but a live-action sci-fi epic.

Will the T-shape be an orphan with a troubled past?

Can the long thin one bear the burden of superhero responsibility?

Will there be a geometric love interest?

Can The Rock please play the square shape and blast off in a rocket at the end?

There are so many questions, but so far not many answers.

No cast, crew, production date, or release date have as yet been set nor a writer named, though Threshold's CEO Larry Kasanoff did offer a few hints about the plot.

"It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie," he told WSJ. "This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes."

Kasanoff added ominously: "Brands are the new stars of Hollywood.

"We have a story behind ‘Tetris’ which makes it a much more imaginative thing."

Threshold were behind the Mortal Kombat films of the 90s, but more recently have been working on animations for Marvel, Lego and Star Wars.

Tetris was first released in 1984 and has never really changed aside from becoming a bit more colourful, so it will be interesting to see what kind of plot arc they can create.

"What you [will] see in ‘Tetris’ is the teeny tip of an iceberg that has intergalactic significance," Kasanoff claimed.
